OUR PARTNERS

Donate Mattresses For Reuse

Cunninghame Furniture Recycling Company are working together with North Ayrshire Council. They have created a mattress reuse project over the last year. The innovation came from increased demand for reuse mattresses. This was led by a volume of enquiries for mattresses through the successful project with NAC Scottish Welfare Fund team and Circular Communities Consortium.

While working with NAC Waste Services we applied for the Zero Waste Scotland Recycling Improvement Fund. This was to improve mattress recycling rates within HWRC sites and funded professional cleaning and sanitising equipment. It also funded reuse containers, specifically for mattresses, to be installed at each of NAC’s Household Waste Recycling Centre’s sites. The 3 mainland sites are serviced weekly and the Brodick HWRC is serviced monthly. (see below for container locations and details)

Working together, CFRC will service the containers by collecting the mattresses for cleaning, sanitising and preparing them for reuse. This increases the number of reusable mattresses – saving them from landfill and fly-tipping. We reuse or recycle 100% of collected mattresses. We post our figures every month on our Social Impacts page.

Cleaning equipment has now been bought and CFRC staff have been trained on its operation. The professional cleaning of mattresses can now be done in house. CFRC have reserved a 94 square metre bay of space to deal only with processing and storing of mattresses.

You can also drop your mattress off at one of the containers found at local HWRC sites. You can use our FREE uplift service as long as the mattress meets the guide noted below. You can also drop your mattresses off to our showroom in Irvine KA12 8LT.

FREE MATTRESS UPLIFT RESTRICTIONS.

  • The mattress has a fire label that has the BS7177 noted
  • No rips or tears
  • The mattress has not been left outside
  • The mattress is not wet
  • There are no signs of infestation

Please remember that as well as being able to donate mattresses, CFRC also collect reusable furniture items FREE of charge. If you have anything else you’d like to donate, please add this when filling in the donation form.
